Owen is two months!

Where has time gone? Owen is growing so fast, it's amazing how time is flying! I just keep telling him to stop growing and just stay little forever. :). But he seems to be growing and healthy, which is definitely a blessing!

Here he is at two months old. I tried really hard to get a picture of him smiling, but I have yet to capture it. He is still not very generous with his smiles, it seems like it has to be just the right moment to get him to smile. But when he does, my heart melts. I heard someone once say that one of the most rewarding things for a parent is their baby's smile. How true!

Other than smiling on occasion, Owen is just being a good baby. He puts up with lots of "in his face" attention from his brothers, so it seems like he is easy going. He is sleeping pretty well, and usually does five hour stretches at night, so it's not too bad. Right now he has this rash on his face that started as baby acne and has turned into what I think is impetigo. The doctor just said to put neosporin on it a few times a day, but it's taking forever to go away. Poor little guy! But I still think he's super cute!

The one thing that everyone says when they see Owen is, "he definitely belongs to you!". Someone at church told me that if I accidentally left him there, anyone would know right where to return him. :)

Christian and Ethan are still adoring him, although Ethan gets a little too rough with him sometimes. But for the most part, he just loves to give him kisses. The biggest challenge is keeping Christian and Ethan from fighting over him. .:)

We are all loving our Owen!

Update: Owen went to the doctor for his two month checkup and here is what we learned.

The rash on his cheeks didn't turn out to be impetigo, but rather eczema or a common newborn rash called derma-something. (I can't remember the whole name.) So I'd been putting neosporin on it and probably causing an allergic reaction which was making it worse, when all I had to do was put a little hydrocortisone cream on it and it cleared it right up! Lesson learned: I suppose I should have taken him in to the doctor in the first place, rather than calling in and telling them I think it looks like impetigo.

Owen's two month stats:

Weight: 12.0 lbs (50%)
Length: 23.2 in. (54%)
Head: 15.7 in. (44%)

The doctor said, "Basically, he's a perfect baby!". We like to think so too. :). We are so grateful that he is health and strong and growing. We are so blessed!

Bees Game

The evening of Race for the Cure, we went to our first Bees game of the season. Fortunately they had a double header, so the first game started at 5, which was much better for the boys' bedtime. We took Connor with us, who was spending the weekend with us, and we all had a great time! Christian loved it, and loved to just sit and watch the game. It amazes me that a four year old will sit through a game and not insist on any extra entertainment or anything. He loves baseball. The night before Jake and Connor were pitching foam baseballs to Christian the backyard and he hit one over the roof of our house! It was amazing! We were all getting such a kick out of how well Christian was hitting. Christian was born to be at a baseball field.

Planet Play

Simon turned seven years old in the middle of our crazy week, so I took the boys to Planet Play where they were having a little birthday celebration. The boys had a blast and ate a really good dinner! It's a very kid friendly pizza, pasta, and salad buffet, including self-serve ice cream cones! I enjoyed watching them play and eat...here's a little glimpse of what fun they had! Christian is in red, Ethan is in stripes and Dylan is in orange.

Now Christian tells me, "Maybe we can go to Planet Play when I turn five."

Aunt Camille's Wedding

We were so blessed to be a part of Camille's wedding last week. She and Justin were married in the Salt Lake temple for time and all eternity on May 11 and it was so much fun to be a part of it.

WEDDING DINNER
The wedding festivities started Tuesday night with a wedding dinner, which Jake and I attended with Owen as our tag along. I don't think anyone minded that Owen was there. :). Actually, it was lucky we didn't have to bring all the boys. We had a last minute babysitter cancellation, so I had to scrounge for someone to watch the boys, and luckily a really nice lady in our ward (whose daughter was busy and couldn't tend) offered to come over with an hour to spare. I took her up on it. It was a nice night out with Jake and his family, and it was fun to meet Justin's family as well. We ate at the Garden restaurant on top of the Joseph Smith Memorial building, so we had a beautiful view of the temple as well.

AT THE TEMPLE
Wednesday morning we all got dressed up and headed to the temple, where we met my parents who watched the boys for us while Jake and I attended the sealing. It was a beautiful ceremony. I am so grateful for the knowledge of the gospel and the blessings of the temple, that we will be a forever family. And while we were there, the boys had a fabulous time with Grandma and Grandpa in the children's section of the church history museum, and then they joined us for pictures outside the temple. Might I add, they looked smashingly handsome. :)

The next two crack me up...click on the pictures to make it big and then look closely at the boys' facial expressions! Ethan has such expressive eyes, it makes for some very classic expression!

This is how Ethan entertained himself a good part of the day. He loves to jump!

THE RECEPTION

Out of nine shots on my camera, there was not one entire family photo where everyone was looking and everyone was smiling and everyone had their eyes open. Hopefully the real photographer got one! These were the best two, but still not perfect. :)

The boys looked smashingly handsome once again, in their tux pants, cuff links and orange vests and ties. They were definitely a big hit all day long! It was so fun to dress them up and hear everyone adore them. :)

Ethan survived on eating goldfish all day long. And some suckers. Thank heavens for goldfish!
The boys lasted the entire reception, even to the bidding farewell to the newlyweds! Although they were a bit disappointed when the bubbles went missing after it was announced. :) They were so good all evening long. It was nice when my parents showed up and so they had some extra entertainment from Grandpa and I had some extra hands to hold Owen from Grandma. Thank you for the help all day, Mom and Dad!

It was such a wonderful day! The weather was windy and chilly at the temple, but it never rained on us, the reception was beautiful and fun, and Camille was just glowing all day. She beamed with happiness. It is such a beautiful thing to witness a couple being sealed for time and all eternity and fun to think back to our own day, when Jake and I were sealed together.

Congratulations, Camille and Justin! Thanks for letting us be a part of your special day. We love you guys!

The Zoo and Aquarium

On two different days we went to the aquarium and the zoo to spend some extra time with Kaitlin, Eliza and Nora. We are so glad they were able to be here for so long!

The Aquarium

My boys love the aquarium and it's hilarious to hear Ethan talk about the things we see there. The morning of this particular visit Christian prayed at breakfast and included, "please bless us to see the Octopus move...". "oh dear," i thought, "The octopus never moves.". Wouldn't you know, as soon as we get there and head past the octopus tank, there is mr. Octopus swimming up and down the tank, being as lively as can be! Christian was thrilled. It was so neat! This is a little boy with a lot of faith!

Driving the boat

Christian looks so grown up in this picture!

The Hogle Zoo with Grammy too!

The day we went to the zoo was a little rough for the kiddos. I think Eliza was worn out from traveling and a busy week, and maybe not feeling well either, and all she wanted was to ride the train and the carousel. Ethan was running a fever and definitely not feeling well, and worn out from a busy week, and he wanted NOTHING to do with the train or the carousel. He kept saying, "I'm ready to go see the elephants" and then as soon as we got to the elephants he'd say, "I'm ready to go see the giraffes." and on like that. It was cute, and the poor little guy just didn't feel well. Fortunately, Christian was thrilled to be there! The best part was that Zoorassic Park had just opened, and so there were dinosaurs throughout the zoo that moved and roared and even spit water. He walked around the zoo, carrying his map the entire time, looking for the next place we needed to go to find the next dinosaur. I loved watching him with his map. And he's a pretty good navigator! He must get that from me. :). So all in all, it was a successful zoo trip, at least in Christian's eyes.

Note: I love Christian's hat. One, because he picked it out and insisted on wearing it and two, because it looks goofy. And three, because I know Daddy much more prefers hats that "look good." The Lion King hat does not fall in that category. Jake has quite a hat collection, and the boys have quite a few themselves! The Lion King hats were free hats when we saw the broadway. Christian and Ethan love to wear them. Jake wants to throw them away. :)

I LOVE this picture of Christian and his map. And his hat.

Race for the Cure

In honor of Jake's mom, we dressed the boys up in pink and ran Race for the Cure. It's a 5K run to raise money for breast cancer research and the amount of people that attended and ran was incredible! I wish we could have had a bird's eye view of the massive amount of people that were really there. We joined Connor in the race, as Grammy, Papa and aunt Camille were busy in Cedar City with Camille's graduation. Although Connor was able to maneuver his way to the front of the race, whereas we were stuck in the massive crowd with a double stroller, and so he finished long before us. But it was fun to have all the boys with us, and they did great riding along! We finally convinced (or maybe forced?) Christian to get out and run the end of the race. We are so glad we did the race!

Busy Week!

Last week was a crazy week and this week we've been recovering from it. But it was also so much fun! Jake's sister got married and so there was family in town and cousins to spend time with. In one week's time we ran Race for the Cure, attended our first Bees game of the season, went to the zoo and the aquarium, attended two birthday parties, and were part of a wedding and reception, definitely the highlight of the week. It was a crazy week, and the boys went to bed late just about every night, but we had a great time seeing cousins and brothers and sister-in-laws and it was so special to be a part of Camille's wedding.

Tonight I am a lucky mommy and my husband has taken the two big boys on an overnight impromptu Daddy/son night, which leaves me here with just baby Owen to have a much needed break and catch up on some much needed sleep. And I just might attempt to catch up on some much needed blogging. I just can't seem to keep up on much these days, except trying to take care of my sweet little boys. I loved a recent post I read on cousin Abby's blog, who has also had her third child this past year: "If only time would stop, then I'd catch up." So true.

My Handsome Boys

This is a brag post.

First, I'd like to brag about this amazing friend I have who is first, an amazing mother and definitely an inspiration to me in my own mothering. She truly is an incredible mother and woman. And second, she is an incredible photographer! She has a gift to capture children as they are, to portray their personalities and everyday smiles. And I am lucky enough to be her friend and be in the same state as her for a brief time. So I stole her away from her husband and three beautiful children for a morning to use her talents.

Second, I know I am biased, but I also think my boys are smashingly handsome.

Thank you, Mary, for taking these incredible photographs!

There were SO many good ones and SO many favorites, so here are just a FEW of my favorites.
She even took a family photo that turned out cute, especially considering I was was two weeks away from delivering Owen! Usually by this point, my face is so chubby I don't like any pictures.
And some fun ones!
This is actually one of my favorites of Christian. He loves baseball.

Christian at almost 4.5 yrs

I have been meaning to write this post since Christian turned four, and now he's one month shy of four and a half!! So here's a glimpse of Christian at age 4 and five months:

1. Christian is smart. He is reading and loving it. He can't read extensively, but he loves to read books on his level and is always asking me to find him new ones to read. He also loves to be read to and will sit and listen to stories for as long as I will read them. He can count to 100, he can write and spell his own name, and he is very good at figuring things out. It's fun to watch him try and solve problems or play the brain challenging games on the iPad. He really thinks and figures them out. He loves to play board games and card games and any other kind of game we have in the close and is incredibly quick at picking up strategies and trying to win. He likes to win, but he never throws a fit if he doesn't. He understands fairness and can handle it. Like if someone gets a "sorry" card and sends him back to the start, or if he has to draw two or four in Uno, he just goes right along with it. I think that's a good quality he has and hopefully we can continue to cultivate that.

2. Christian has a very tender heart, which has become quite evident within the past few months. He is sensitive and aware of tender moments and situations. For example, I was up early one morning with Christian and so we were watching the end of The Tigger Movie, where Tigger is trying to find his family and there doesn't seem to be any other Tiggers anywhere. At the end, Tigger goes to the place where he expects his family to be, but the only people there are his friends--Pooh, Piglet, Roo, etc. At this point, I noticed Christian was crying these tender tears, truly sad for Tigger that he didn't find his family. I asked Christian what was wrong, and he said, "Tigger didn't find his family." I had to explain to him that it was a happy ending because he learned that all his friends were his family. He was still a little sad that Tigger never found his family; he understands how important your family is. A similar situation happened another time when Christian was watching an Elmo movie but came and found me before it was over, and I could tell he was about to cry. I eventually figured out that Elmo had lost his blankie in the movie and couldn't find it. Christian must have known how important a blankie is because of Ethan's maya. :)

3. Christian likes things to be as he expects them to be and has a hard time with the unexpected. He asks me every night (multiple times) "What are we going to do tomorrow?" Sometimes I think it's just a way to delay bedtime, but I also think he really likes to know.

4. Christian is creative and likes to come up with new games to play and new things to make. The other day he planned out a car to make with a toilet paper roll, and then followed through with his plan all by himself by cutting the roll and sticking it on top of a car. He also created a game where he tied some yarn across a walkway and then wanted me to tie two bouncy balls on the yard, so that he could shoot his darts at them and try to knock them off. His latest and current project is his fort. It's very fun and has been up for two days. It takes up our entire living room, but that's okay.

5. Christian is one of the best singers in primary. He has really come out of his shell a lot this year in primary. He sings at the top of his lungs, and knows all the words to the songs they are learning. And now when they pick his name to go up and be a helper, he goes up! This is a big chance from being a sunbeam. He also willingly has given a prayer, a scripture, and even his first talk! I'll admit, I almost got a bit choked up while I was helping him give his talk, but I managed to keep composed. My little guy is growing up so fast! I am so grateful to be in primary with him and watch him learn and grow and change. They sang a cute song for mother's day and at the end of each verse they sang, "I wish every child in the whole wide world had a wonderful mom, just like you!" and pointed to their moms. Every time they practiced in the primary room he would turn and point at me, in a shy but proud sort of way. I am definitely a proud mommy and there were tears streaming down my cheeks when they sang in sacrament meeting. Jake had tears as well. We love our little Christian!

6. Christian is a great helper with little Owen. He loves and adores his baby brother and loves to "watch over him" or hold him or just give him constant kisses and hugs. He also loves Ethan, and and they can have a lot of fun together when they are getting along. They love to dance together or throw balls up and down the stairs.

7. Christian LOVES baseball. He loves to play it and he even loves to watch it. We went to the Bees game the other night and he just sat and watched the game! He didn't ask for treats, he didn't ask to go play on the playground or ride the train. He just watched the game. The night before Jake and Uncle Connor had been pitching to Christian when he hit a baseball over our house! Literally, it was incredible. I told Jake, this kid was born to play baseball. He's got a great arm, and he can hit a live pitch like you wouldn't believe. And he's also a great little basketball player. He's got a great basketball shot and Jake would call him Jimmer during BYU basketball season. He can shoot a long shot into his hoop and make basket after basket without missing. Christian is quite the little athlete.

8. Christian still loves his mommy and prefers me over Jake, especially when he's tired or doesn't feel well. This can be quite exhausting for me, with three that need me, but I suppose I should enjoy the moments. :)

9. Christian is active. He likes to watch a show here or there, but he will not sit through a long movie. When I'm desperate and really need a nap, I sometimes have him watch a movie, but he almost always turns it off part way through and comes and tells me he's done watching his movie. He just gets bored of it. I suppose that's a good thing, except when I really want to sleep a little longer. He much prefers to play a game or be outside riding his bike or playing baseball. I hope he will always be like that.

10. Christian loves treats and sweets and cake. It's amazing how long it can take him to eat his dinner, and what a great effort it is on my part to get him to eat it sometimes. But put a piece of cake in front of him and it's gone in mere seconds and he's asking for more. I suppose he takes after my own liking for things of that nature.

Ethan at 2+ years

I have been wanting to write a couple posts dedicated to Christian and Ethan, just to record some things about them that I don't want to forget. So here is a post all about Ethan, at age 26 months.

1. Right now he is the exact same age Christian was when he was born.

2. Ethan is goofy. He loves to laugh and has a good sense of humor. Just barely I went in to his bedroom (for the third time) and he was trying to tell me what song to sing him. I could not understand what he was saying. The more he said it, the less I understood but I kept guessing what it was. And with each guess, he would laugh hysterically at me, finding it so funny that I couldn't figure out what he was saying. (In this same circumstance, Christian would be screaming at me in frustration. Different personalities.) In the end, he chose another song, which actually clued me into the original song he was requesting--the Cougar song. So yes, I sang him the cougar fight song for bedtime tonight. He loves it.

3. Ethan loves to sing and he knows SO MANY songs. Some of his favorites are "Give Said the Little Stream," (and he sings the chorus with "gusto", with his hands cupped, just like the primary kids. At this very moment I can hear him singing this at the top of his lungs in bed.), "Toot, Toot Chugga Chugga Big Red Car" (he LOVES the Wiggles!), "I am a Child of God," the Cougar Fight song, which he also refers to as the Jimmer song, "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," "Hakuna Matata" and "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" (you should hear him sing the words to these two--so cute!) and more. I love to listen to him sing.

4. Ethan is so easy going. He puts up with a lot from his big brother. It drives me crazy the way Christian manipulates Ethan into giving him whatever he wants or doing whatever he tells him, but Ethan doesn't seem to mind most of the time. I think it bugs me more than it bugs Ethan. Ethan would rather just comply than cause a big fight. He seems to be the peacemaker of the family, so far. (Although he is getting stronger and tougher, and putting up more of a fight than he used to.)

5. Ethan loves his "maya" aka blankie. He always sleeps with it, and usually wants it right after he wakes up or when he's sad or really tired. He's quite particular about the way it's put on him when he goes to bed--the soft, bumpy side must be face up, or it's wrong.

6. Ethan has the biggest, bluest eyes that can melt your heart at any moment. He will look you in the eye and ask for what he wants with so much sincerity, it's hard to resist. And usually he will be nodding his head and doing whatever he's asking while he's asking it, even when he knows very well he shouldn't be. Good thing he's so stinkin' cute.

7. Everyone thinks Ethan is so adorable. Everywhere we go, anyone we meet, loves him. He is that adorable and his personality is that lovable. We think he is quite irresistible ourselves. :)

8. Ethan loves to jump. He loves to jump in place, in circles, or while clapping his hands. He loves to jump off steps or stairs or ledges or couches or anything raised off the ground. I love to watch him be so enthralled in his jumping and clapping simultaneously. At Aunt Camille's wedding this last week he couldn't stop jumping on the grounds of the temple. I think he loved the feeling and sound of his shoes on the brick walkways.

9. Ethan has very much become a two year old. He insists on doing things how he wants them, and refuses to give in to any other way. He's started having tantrums that are quite funny to me since he's the second not the first child. :) For example, the other night after leaving the Bees game he had quite the melt down. Ethan loves to go down stairs and almost always insists on walking down them himself, while holding my hand. He does not want to be carried. Well, upon exiting the Bees game and descending a long flight of stairs, Jake carried Ethan to speed things up since the boys were already up past their bedtime. (That didn't help the tantrum.) By the time Jake was at the bottom of the stairs, Ethan was in a fit that could not be consoled. I probably should have just taken him back to the stairs to descend them on his own, but I didn't, and thus we carried a screaming, arms flailing child to the car, who at one point sat on the sidewalk and refused to go toward the car, screaming and crying. He kept trying to pull me back to the stadium, but we kept picking him up and carrying him toward the car. Eventually he was buckled in, still screaming, and cried most of the ride home. Poor little guy. He was so tired, and so crushed that he didn't get to go down those long stairs on his own. I felt so bad, because he's the sweetest little boy and he was so sad. Oh to be two.

10. Ethan is a good eater and will eat mostly anything. He loves ketchup and sour cream, as well as any kind of berry. He also loves a sippy cup full of milk first thing in the morning and will drink the whole thing.

11. Ethan loves to take baths. The other day he took two, because I bathed him in the morning and when he woke up from his nap was insisted on having another one. This is not typical, but that particular day he got two baths. And Christian joined him both times.

12. Ethan is a talker. And we love to hear him talk. He says the funniest things, like "C,mon Jake!", and "I'm super fast" or "I'm super wet". He's getting really good at saying Christian's name, and it's so funny to hear him talk to Christian. I love it. He loves the zoo and the aquarium and will talk your ear off about either place and what he saw there. He loves to talk about the sting rays and the penguins and the giraffes and the elephants.

13. Ethan loves helicopters, airplanes, jets, buses, motorcycles, and anything else that is big and loud and moves. He's very observant and always the first to point out one of the vehicles mentioned. It amazes me when he says "A jet! or A helicopter!" before I ever hear or see it. And he's always right. He is also very observant with sounds, and anytime he hears something out of the ordinary he looks at me with a concerned look and says, "What's that." He also says that when he sees something abnormal. He's a smart kid.

14. Ethan loves books and puzzles and games. He has incredible puzzle skills, and can put together 24 piece jigsaw puzzles all by himself, and a 48 piece puzzle with just a little assistance to get started. He also loves to play games and will sit and play game after game with you if you let him.

15. Ethan loves, LOVES the iPad. That also happens to be another source of tantrums when he's too tired. :) He mainly just likes to navigate around on it, and doesn't stay in one app for long. Except for you tube, where he will sit and watch Wiggles movie after Wiggles movie. It's amazing (and scary) how tech savvy this little two year old is! But the funny thing is that he doesn't know how to use a mouse and navigate around on the computer like Christian could do at his age. He thinks everything should be touch-screen.

16. He still loves to read a story and snuggle and be sung to before he has a nap. I love that daily moment with him.

17. When Ethan is getting close to being done with his meal, he will take the last three or four or five bites and stuff them all in his mouth at once and declare, "I'm done" or "More!" with very muffled words. It cracks me up!

Dying Easter Eggs

Christian and Ethan LOVED dying eggs this year! Christian loved coloring on them and watching it appear, and Ethan was dying eggs in record time. Needless to say, all of his were nice and cracked. I think Christian could have dyed five more dozen. He was really proud of his creations, as was evident by the scene I came upon in the kitchen...

Christian had retrieved the colored eggs from the fridge and he and Ethan were showing each one to Owen. They love their baby brother and don't ever want him to be left out! :)

Christian and Owen

Christian loves his baby brother! He loves to hold him and sometimes asks to just snuggle with him on the couch. One Sunday afternoon he even got Owen to go to sleep while holding him. I thought these were great pictures.

Owen, One Month

Owen turned one month old on April 25 and just a few days later he started smiling! He is not very generous with his smiles yet, but Jake seems to always get the best ones. He is starting to sleep a little longer at night (4-5 hour stretches) and is just a great baby all around. And I think he has the cutest little profile!

And here's one of the three boys, as the other two wanted to get in on the photo shoot. :)
