Melt your heart...

Merry Christmas,
from the little man who melts my heart every day!

Our Christmas Tree!

When you wait until December 19th to buy your Christmas tree, your selection of trees gets pretty slim.
Due to another unusually busy December (more to come on that later), we did not get around to getting a Christmas tree until a day behind last year! And I thought last year was bad. So we took the quick option and stopped at Home Depot, where fortunately they still had a FEW trees left. We walked to the very end of the row and bought the lone tree, which turned out to be beautiful! Probably our best one yet!
Christian picked the tree and Ethan approved, probably because it was freezing outside and we weren't exactly dressed in our winter coats!
We were so excited about getting such a big tree for a great price, that we failed to realize that our big, beautiful tree also had a big, beautiful trunk that didn't fit in our tree stand. Oops. As Jake said, we can't do anything the easy way. So when we pulled it off the top of our car in our garage, Jake spent the next hour sawing off six inches of the trunk with a pocket knife, to a point that we could jam it half way into our tree stand. Don't worry, it hasn't fallen over yet.
We eventually got it in the house (Christian was very patient), decorated it, and have been enjoying our beautiful Christmas tree and it's aroma for the last week!

Fun Christmas Activities

December has been a bit crazy for us this year, to say the least. Nothing out of the ordinary, really. But we did manage to sneak in a few fun Christmas activities here and there:

CHRISTMAS COOKIES
Christian does not like to get his fingers dirty or sticky when dealing with food, and he never wants to lick off whatever may have gotten on them. This year, however, he discovered how yummy the frosting was! He had no problem licking his fingers this time.

CHRISTMAS TREATS
Christian and I made our traditional pretzel Hugs, which are so yummy, and so fun because Christian can almost do them by himself! He was a great helper!
Here he is doing them last year (so cute! love the lips!):
(Christmas 2008)
My how he's grown!
GINGERBREAD HOUSES
First, Christian and I made the gingerbread. The best part of that is eating it fresh, dipped in milk! YUM! Ethan loved it too! We also made out own gingerbread man and read the Gingerbread Baby while we ate our snack. Unfortunately, our gingerbread man didn't live to see his house we built.
Sunday morning before church we had plenty of time (church starts at 1:00), so we built and decorated our gingerbread house.
The Worker (and Eater of the Candy)

The Mastermind behind the masterpiece

The Spectator

The Worker and the Mastermind with their masterpiece

The Masterpiece, from every angle
(Can you spot everyone's initial? Also, notice Jake's very festive rock gardens!)

This year's gingerbread house is going to be hard to outdo! I'm very impressed, Jake! We'd also like to thank our good friends, the Harrisons, who sponsored this gingerbread house by providing the candy used to decorate it. :)

Friends

It all began when we moved into the same apartment complex as the Salmons, the Harrisons lived in the complex next door, and the three men carpooled to the MARTA station together. The women had no other choice but to be friends. At that time, we all only had one child, at least two of us could carpool together to any given outing with children, and we all lived in the same ward. And now here we are, almost two years later, three additional children in the mix, all in separate wards, no longer carpooling, but still as good of friends as ever. The Harrisons moved to Boston, and will be moving to Potugal in January, and they stayed with us on their way to Utah for the holidays. We all got together and it was a great time!
One night we put all six kids to bed upstairs and the adults watched the Clemson/Geogia Tech football game and ate way too much. Unfortunately, the two tiger fans ended up cheering for the losing team. But do you like our prom picture?
The MEN (John, Willie, Jake)
The WOMEN (Krista, Lindy, Camille)
These girls are my lifesavers, time and time again. What would I do without them? Thanks Ladies, for everything!
And the KIDDIES!
(Parker-2.5, Lincoln-10 mo., Ethan-9 mo., Austria-1, Christian-almost three, Anya-almost three)
Can you believe we got such a good picture of all of them together? It was quite a miracle, really.

The TWO YEAR OLDS!
These two are trouble...and they call each other Donald and Daisy. Anya insists. It's hilarious! They really are the best of friends.

Thanks for such a fun weekend, everyone!! We LOVED having everyone here! What a blast!

Bathtime Mohawks

December 15, 2009

I gave Ethan a mohawk in the bathtub because he has so much hair and it's way too long, and when Christian saw it he said, "Esan has a mohawk! He's a basketball player." So then he wanted to be a basketball player too. Mohawks all around! (I'm still not sure why a mohawk is associated with a basketball player...any guesses? )

Ethan's Throne

We finally got a high chair for Ethan (Christian never had one, just a booster seat), and I love having it because Ethan will sit forever in it! And once we got it, Ethan ate much better for me. Now Ethan eats like a horse, as long as it's not baby food. Jake says Ethan sits in the Taj Mahal. Oh how I love Craigslist deals. :)

Ethan 9 Months

Ethan turned 9 months almost three weeks ago, and I'm finally now getting around to posting about it. At least I took the pictures on time.
His stats at his 9 month well-visit were: (so I can't remember them exactly, but I'll get the exacts stats at a later date)

Weight: (19%)
Height: (74%)
Head:

He was healthy and well, including his ears, so we feel very blessed! We just LOVE having Ethan in our family. Here are a few reasons why:

-He has the sweetest personality and brings so much joy and laughter into our home. He is definitely the sunshine at the end of Daddy's work day every day.
-He melts us with his adorable smile, his big blue eyes, and his hair, that just wont do anything but stick straight up.
-He is happy, happy, happy, and we couldn't ask for anything better from him. (Although, if he slept through the night, I certainly wouldn't complain about that.)
-He says uh-oh, mama, dada, yaya, and makes the cutest lip-smacking noise.
-He still doesn't crawl, but is showing a great interest in wanting to move. I think it'll still be awhile yet. He's a little behind in this department, I think, but he's been so content just to sit and play with toys!
-He loves his blankie and binky when he wants to go to sleep, but otherwise doesn't use either.
-He is silly. We think he'll be a goofball.
-We call him our wild man! He has lots of energy and gets very excited. I think he'll be off and running before he can walk!
-He puts up with a lot of toy-taking, pushing, wrestling, and flat out being sat/stood/laid on by his big brother. Poor Ethan. One day I think he'll get Christian back for all this. :)
-He loves his Mommy, but he also loves his Daddy and LOVES when he gets home from work.
-He is just so, so cute. We cannot get enough of him.

Jake and I think these boys look nothing alike...what do you think?
(Christian has just recently gotten into the "face-making" stage. Very fun!)

Christian's Joy School

Here are some of Christian's first projects from school. I realize I'm way behind, since the latest is Thanksgiving. :)

Christian is very creative!

And Monkey is a very lucky monkey!

Sunday Afternoon

Last week was our first Sunday in our new ward. Two weeks ago we were informed of a boundary change within our stake that affected our ward, and we were bumped into another, smaller ward in our stake. So now we attend a different building, but after one Sunday, it seems to be a wonderful ward! The people were all very welcoming and Christian loved his new class. We have never lived in a ward longer than a year and a half since we got married, so I suppose it's time for a change anyway!

Taking after his parents

What's better than enjoying chocolate off a spatula?
Christian has just recently been brave enough to lick the spatula and I think he likes it!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm a day late, but Happy Thanksgiving anyway!

We spent the holiday and enjoyed delicious food with our fun fellow Georgian cousins.
Thanks for having us! I hope everyone else had a wonderful Thanksgiving too! We have so much to be thankful for.
